How do I find a relative’s grave at a Jewish cemetery?

Type a surname and given name into the search form on the homepage and Zikaron will show matches across every Jewish cemetery in our database, complete with a photo of the matzevah, life dates, plot number and GPS coordinates. Russian, English and Hebrew spellings all work.

Are Hebrew and Yiddish names supported?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every record carries three parallel spellings (Russian, English, Hebrew) and Hebrew-calendar dates. You can search in any of the three languages.

What if a grave exists at the cemetery but is missing from the database?

Accepted Answer

Add the burial through the website or the Telegram bot @ZikaronMemoryBot — a brief registration is required. Alternatively, message us via our Telegram channel https://t.me/zikaron_ecemetery, attach a photo of the matzevah and the coordinates — we will add the card, translate the name into three languages and reconcile the Hebrew-calendar dates.

How do I order grave cleaning or headstone repair?

Accepted Answer

On the burial page click “Order service” and choose: cleaning, restoration or new headstone installation. The request is routed to a local contractor who works at that cemetery; you receive before/after photos and a final report.

Can I order Kaddish for Yahrzeit remotely?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pick “Kaddish” from the services menu. The prayer will be recited in a local synagogue with a minyan on the correct Hebrew-calendar date. The Yahrzeit date is calculated automatically only when a full date of death is recorded on the burial card.

How often is the burial data refreshed?

Accepted Answer

New cards and edits appear in search right after moderation — typically within 24 hours.

Is the platform free for visitors and communities?

Accepted Answer

Search, burial cards, maps and photos are free for everyone. Only applied services (cleaning, repair, Kaddish, photo report, archival search) are paid. Communities and foundations that care for cemeteries also get baseline access to Zikaron CRM at no cost.

How do we hand our cemetery data over to Zikaron?

Accepted Answer

We accept any format: Excel/CSV, PDF inventories, legacy websites, photo archives, handwritten ledgers. Email us info@zikaron.app, and we sign an agreement, digitize and structure the material, create burial cards and a cemetery page with a plot map and burial list.

Coordinates come from field expeditions, community handoffs and volunteer submissions via our Telegram bot. Photographs come from archive digitization, expedition shoots and moderated user uploads.

Our company provides cemetery maintenance, headstone repair and installation. Can we offer our services for Jewish burials through your platform?

Jewish burials come in different forms: dedicated Jewish cemeteries, dedicated Jewish sections within general public cemeteries, and individual Jewish burials scattered across general cemeteries. We cover all of these formats in our database.
